BOTOX

Neurotoxins (Botulinum Toxins)

Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin (Neurotoxins), also known as “Botox” by patients, is a popular injection that immediately minimizes or gets rid of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Botulinum toxin injections are a pure substance made from bacteria that stops nerve signals from reaching the muscle that is being injected. Without a signal, the muscle cannot contract, which reduces undesirable facial wrinkles or appearance. Crow’s feet near the eyes, forehead creases, and frown lines are the most often treated locations. This procedure can also treat other areas like lip lines, gummy smiles, thick jaw muscles, and neck bands.

Our Brand: DYSPORT

Uses of Botulinum Toxins

  • Smooth crow’s feet, forehead furrows, frown lines, lip lines and bunny lines
  • Improve gummy smile
  • Lift the brows and corners of the mouth
  • Reduced neck bands
  • Enhance the appearance of the chin’s skin dimpling
  • Soften a square jawline

Risks of Botulinum Toxin Injections

Despite being largely safe, complications and side effects from botulinum toxin can occur, including:

  • Headache and Nausea
  • Redness at the injection site
  • Bruising and pain at the injection site
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Temporary facial weakness or drooping

There is extremely little chance that the toxin will travel beyond of the treatment region and result in symptoms similar to botulism, including slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, breathing difficulties, and muscle weakness.

CAUTION: Following a wrinkle treatment, avoid massaging or rubbing the treated regions as this may facilitate the migration of the botulinum toxin to another part of your face. If this occurs, you may have transient facial drooping or weakness.

Consultation for Botulinum Toxin Injections

Consultation is required prior to the actual injection procedure. In your consultation regarding botulinum toxin, the following will be discussed:

  • Your goals
  • Medical conditions, drug allergies and medical treatments
  • Current medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drugs

Along with discussing anticipated benefits, risks, and potential consequences, the nurse injector may also assess your general health status and any pre-existing medical illnesses or risk factors. If you have any queries or need more information on botulinum toxins, please do not hesitate to ask. Our skilled and certified nurse injector would be pleased to help!

Steps on Botulinum Toxin Injections

1. Our Nurse Injector will collect all the intake forms from you. That includes the Consent form, Medical History form, and the Consultation Form (lists of information about the procedure).

2. Nurse injector will review your goals, take the initial before and after photos, and finalize the areas to be treated.

3. Clean the skin thoroughly with alcohol/ chlorohexidine.

4. Botulinum toxin is injected in tiny doses into particular muscles using a very fine needle. In order to maintain your natural facial expressions, your nurse injector will only weaken the muscles that cause wrinkles by carefully selecting which muscles to target.

5. Typically, injections for botulinum toxin treatment take less than 15 minutes. Although you might experience some discomfort during the injections, it is tolerable.

6. The degree of wrinkles and the contours of your face will determine how many injections you require (e.g., Frontalis muscle needs 3 or more; crow’s feet may require 2 to 3 injections.)

Results to Anticipate After Injections of Botulinum Toxin

Although you might see some improvements in a few days, the entire impact might not be seen for up to a week. The duration of this improvement is usually three to four months. Your muscle responses and wrinkles will reappear once the effects of botulinum toxin start to wear off.

Recovery After the Botulinum Toxin Injections

  • You can get right back to your regular activities.
  • Anesthesia is not necessary. Injections of botulinum toxin do not require any recovery or downtime.
  • Very important: After receiving wrinkle treatment, avoid massaging or rubbing the treated areas since this may cause the botulinum toxin to spread to other parts of your face. Should this occur, you may have transient face paralysis or drooping.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1. Am I good candidate?

You are a good candidate if you do not have any of the following conditions:

  • Skin infection at the intended injection location, or be allergic to any of the components in Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA).
  • General muscle weakness, nerve conditions, such as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
  • Any health issues, such as facial surgery or the intention to undergo facial surgery, difficulty lifting your eyebrows, drooping eyelids, or any other unusual facial change.

You can schedule a free consultation to find out if botulinum toxins are a good fit for you.

2. Is it safe?

Botulinum toxin type A injections are among the safest and fastest ways to get rid of wrinkles. Almost every facial action, including smiling, frowning, squinting, and even chewing, can eventually result in wrinkles, one of the most prevalent indicators of aging.

3. Does it hurt?

Botulinum Toxin is diluted to a very controlled solution and when injected into the muscles with a very thin needle, it is almost painless. Clients may feel a slight burning sensation while the solution is being injected.

4. What is the downtime?

Injections of botulinum toxin do not require any recovery or downtime.

5. Who will perform the botulinum toxin injections?

Registered Nurse of Newfoundland and Labrador with accredited Basic & Advance Neuromodulator/ Dermal Filler Certificates

6. What other aesthetics services I can add following Botulinum Toxin injections?

To further enhance your outcomes, botulinum toxin can be used in conjunction with other cosmetic skin procedures including chemical peels, laser treatments, dermal fillers, or microdermabrasion. Even the development of new wrinkles and lines may be avoided with the help of this combination of treatments. The procedure described above is one of the light to moderate skin care procedures that you can have at least two to four weeks before to or following the botox treatment.
